FREEDOM TO READ BILL UPDATE… stay informed and contact your legislators!

SB 1098 – Freedom to Read
Yes, this bill has been one of our Calls to Action before, but it needs your help again. This bill would prohibit discrimination when selecting or retaining school library materials, textbooks or instructional materials, or when developing and implementing a curriculum. It’s a ban on book bans, and we need it right now more than ever. Read more about it here. It passed the Senate, with all Democrats voting for it and all Republicans voting against it. But it’s been stalled in the House Committee on Education for a while – several work sessions to move this bill out of committee have been canceled. So, we ask you to contact the following Democratic committee members and urge them NOT to cancel the next scheduled work session!(Monday, May 19) and vote YES on SB 1098 to move it out of committee so that it can go to the full House for a vote.
